Yoga  with Mia

"A thousand mile journey begins with the first step." - Lao Tzu

Mia Blumstein, a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT), embarked on her lifelong yoga journey` at the age of 19, upon discovering "Ashthanga Yoga" in San Francisco. Drawn to health, fitness, and Zen philosophy, she intuitively connected with the practice, crafting her initial routine pose by pose. Her passion organically led to private sessions, beginning with her husband, Jonah, a talented music teacher, and quickly expanded as friends sought her guidance.

Though the seed was planted decades ago, it was in 2022 that Mia committed to becoming a certified instructor. In 2023, she completed her 200-hour training at Shiva Rishi Yoga Centre in Kerala, India, immersing herself in Vinyasa, Classical Hatha, and Ayurvedic Philosophy, and teaching her first group class. There, she discovered Yin Yoga, a practice she further explored upon returning to the US, completing Claire Green's "Yoga Teacher Training - Yin Mastery" (100 hours).

Through Claire's inspiring mentorship, Mia delved into the profound connection between yoga and Ancient Chinese Medicine, exploring Meridian physiology, organ systems, and pathways. She also deepened her understanding of anatomy, particularly the fascia system and prop usage. Yoga unfolded, revealing layers of interconnected knowledge, transforming her mind, body, and spirit. Her goal evolved beyond teaching to empowering others to reach their highest potential.

Building upon her foundation, Mia completed her 300-Hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training and earned an ISSA-approved International Fitness Certification, becoming a licensed personal trainer through the Duke Institute of Fitness and Sports. She now integrates scientific principles of exercise and body mechanics with the wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita in her practice. Expanding her expertise, she has completed Children's Yoga Teacher Training (100 hours) and is currently pursuing Prenatal Yoga certification. Simultaneously, she refines her skills through practice with friends and family and contributes to Brentwood School's VA Partnership, offering Trauma-Informed Yoga to women Veterans.

For Mia, yoga, health, and fitness are not merely professions, but a way of life. She is dedicated to sharing her knowledge and fostering a supportive yoga community. Beyond her professional pursuits, Mia cherishes time with her husband Jonah and their 12-year-old daughter, Rose. She believes in the power of love and laughter, and strives to not take life too seriously. She expresses her creative spirit through music, playing the musical saw and guitar, and singing live with her band "Mia and Jonah," as well as in casual jam sessions with friends and family in her living room. She finds solace and inspiration in nature, beauty, and the simple joys of life, including the company of her two beloved cats. She invites you to join her on this continuous journey, where the simplicity of yoga meets profound expertise, and where laughter and love are always welcome.
